Chili Cook-off a Great Success

Nancy Rumsey serving chili

The competition was hot and heavy for the best chili, pie, and cornbread at Western Weekend.  Sponsored by West Marin Senior Services and led by the capable Chloe Cook, we had wonderful volunteers who spent hours concocting their best recipes to try to win the crown.  Hand-embroidered aprons by Susan Conard were the prized gifts along with a bottle of Toad Hollow Wine, donated by Pam Osborn.   Proceeds benefit Stockstill House.

The overall winner this year with the best chili was Alan Glas of San Anselmo. When asked about his recipe, he said he used round steak as the mainstay and had several secret ingredients added at the last minute, including  his neighbor’s homemade vinegar. Mary Warnimont of Inverness made the winning corn bread, Frank Gyorgy had the best vegetarian chili, and Linda Carmagno of Point Reyes Station won with her raspberry pie.

Staff and volunteers had a great time selling and serving delicious food.
